Initiative 1- Figurative representation of “My Idea of freedom from Gender Stereotypes”
“We don’t have to engage in grand, heroic actions to participate in change. Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world.” - Howard Zinn
As a part of this activity, students of grades I to IV were made aware about the social issue of gender stereotype. After a healthy discussion on the same they were asked to represent their idea of freedom from gender stereotype. Students represented their ideas and point of view through creative enactment, pictures and posters to break the stereotype.
Initiative 2- Slogan Writing and Reciting Activity
Students of grade V and VI actively participated in the Slogan Writing and Reciting Activity. The students of grade V made slogans on the topic ‘Gender Equality’ and the students of class VI wrote slogans on the topic ‘Woman Empowerment’ and gave these slogans a voice as a part of classroom activity.
Initiative 3- One express (Speaking Activity)
In order to foster youth capable of critical thinking and problem-solving, One-Express speaking activity was conducted. Students of classes VII and VIII were encouraged to speak on different social issues like Gender Biasness in my class/home, Gender Roles, Gender equality, Woman Empowerment and how to promote Gender Equality.
Initiative 4- Self Defence Training
To boost the confidence of young women, a Self Defence workshop was organised for the girls of class IX. The main aim is to empower the girls and prepare them to analyse a dangerous situation and take actions to overcome it effectively. The girls develop the confidence to protect themselves on their own.
Initiative 5- Gender Neutral sports activities
In the Annual Athletic Meet of Bosco Public School that was held in the month of January, various games and sports activities were conducted to promote gender equality. The objective was to sensitize the students about gender equality that is intrinsically linked to sustainable development and is vital to the realization of human rights for all.
Initiative 6- Class Assembly and House board
A class assembly was conducted by class VI on the theme ‘Being Strong is not Gender Specific.’ The topic of the assembly was so relatable that pupils gave their first-hand input. Their creative ideas were conceptualized in the form of skit, they highlighted that girls are equivalent to boys in every field. Pupils showcased this by showing their talent in Judo and how sisters shield their brothers with same fervour and strength.
Students of Nehru House depicted their views on gender equality in the most creative ways by decorating their house bulletin board based on the theme ‘Gender Equality’. The board highlighted the artistic skills of the students and they presented their thoughts on the theme through slogans, posters and creative art works.
