Description
Initiative 1- Mapting Activity
The Mapting (“mapping” and “acting”) app allows users to track and map activities that contribute to actualizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Students of grades VI to XI were engaged in making the 17 SDGs a reality and helping to highlight the positive actions being taken everywhere to address global problems. Students tagged themselves on the Mapting App while doing the acts of sustainability.
Initiative 2- Summit@Bosco
In order to empower the learners and to foster youth capable of critical thinking and problem-solving, a Summit was held at Bosco Public School. Summit aimed at nurturing global citizens in an ever-changing world and enacting global change to meet Sustainable Development Goals. Students of grades XI and XII , from various schools of Delhi participated in the Summit. The Summit aimed at sensitizing the students and gave them a platform to critically express their ideas on ‘Sustainable Living vs Zero Waste Living – A step towards building more resilient cities’. Learners discussed pragmatic ways like recycling, car-pooling, buying second hand, harnessing energy by creation of Dyson Sphere, avoiding single-use items, paperless bills, supporting eco-friendly business, solving waste crisis, mainstreaming smart, sustainable and healthy lifestyles, phasing out toxins and emissions and building resilient neighbourhoods and strong communities. Vice Principal madam had an interaction with all the participants and encouraged them to embolden the resolve to put sustainability in action. The discussion in the Summit helped the students reflect on how people have been trying to solve problems around the world and to encourage them to think alternative solutions. This discussion oriented towards creating awareness about and reflecting on local and global problems.
Initiative 3- Culture Box Exchange with GRS Elementary School, South Korea
Cultural exchanges provide an opportunity to explore other cultures, traditions, customs, beliefs, societies, languages and much more. It is an excellent opportunity to view the world with a different lens as it provides alternative perspectives! Students of grade IV - V participated in the Exchange Programme and extended hands of partnership to the students of GRS Elementary School, South Korea. The Culture box included sustainable Jute
pouches, handmade bookmarks, Indian chocolates, postcards (Indian monuments) with personalized messages, traditional Indian snacks and Mandala Art Work.
Initiative 4 - Brochure Making and Visits to Schools in West Delhi to work together towards achieving Sustainability Goal 17- Partnership for Goals
Students of grade XI made brochure and invitation cards highlighting the need for the sustainable world. Students along with the Teacher Ambassador for the month of August, visited the schools in the vicinity and extended a hand of friendship to strive and move in the direction of sustainability together. Boscons presented sapling and handmade soaps made by Team Swastik, to the school principals. During the visits, schools were also invited for the Summit@Bosco. Students presented the brochures and cards made by them and explained the dire need to come together and extended the hands of partnership to achieve SDG Goal No. 17.
Initiative 5 - Vending Soaps made by Bosco’s Team Swastik (from waste flowers) to the parents, as a sustainable initiative
As an extension to the Educational Program of School Enterprise Challenge (SEC) organized by the U.K. based organization ‘Teach a Man to Fish’, students of grade XII launched their products under the brand name SWASTIK and organized a Sales Day Event for the students and parents of the school.
Students conceived the business idea of collecting flowers from temple, investigated and researched their idea, developed a thoughtful business plan and set up their business of producing and selling hand-made Soaps, Incense Cups and Holi and Rangoli colors as per the plan under the able guidance of their mentors.
On the sales day, School Enterprise Challenge -Team SWASTIK received an overwhelming response from the school mates and their parents. It was a step towards the sustainability by making the best out of the resources that go waste. This initiative has not only helped students in developing the necessary life-skills, but also created awareness about using resources judiciously and to think about sustainable development.
